d6f5b68a0d enhance: test on Windows and fix what it found (#1348)
Adds a weekly and on-demand workflow that runs the cross-compiled tests on Windows Server 2025 Core in a [dockur/windows](https://github.com/dockur/windows) QEMU VM, and fixes the Windows bugs it found in host and UNC paths, env handling, shell quoting, post-task scripts, health checks, checkout, action symlinks, step summaries, Git client certificates and docker mode from a Windows host.

Host-mode steps now emit UTF-8, `bash` falls back to Git's bash instead of the WSL launcher, the runner can run as a native Windows service, steps can keep background helpers with `RUNNER_TRACKING_ID`, and Windows arm64 binaries are released.

d8d4a4657d fix: scope the action identity to the step executing an action (#1359)
`github.action_repository`/`github.action_ref` and their env vars now belong to the step executing an action, like on GitHub: set for remote actions, empty for `run`, `docker://` and local steps. Before, a local action nested in a remote composite resolved `$/` against the remote action instead of the workflow's repository.

Updates actionslib to v1.5.1, which accepts `$/` as the repository root action.

d77e216674 fix(exec): serve the v4 artifact API so upload-artifact v4 and later work (#1341)
`exec` forwarded the toolkit's ArtifactService calls to an instance it never registered, and its random runtime token held no backend IDs, so `actions/upload-artifact` and `actions/download-artifact` v4 and later failed.

The local artifact server now serves the v4 API, including the single Put Blob uploads docker/build-push-action uses. `exec` gives each workflow its own unsigned JWT runtime token and artifact run, so artifact names conflict and carry over between runs as on GitHub. Artifacts default to a temporary directory instead of the workspace that jobs copy.

fe2a66dc25 fix: align runner behaviours (#1338)
Contains a number of small bug fixes where jobs behaved differently from GitHub or failed silently.

1. Hooks fail on a refused `::set-env::` or `::add-path::` and no longer inherit the last step's identity
1. Docker build, exec and wait errors are returned instead of swallowed, token-only registry credentials work, logs of `--tty` services decode
1. Env files split lines like GitHub on each OS, so a carriage return is kept on Linux and CRLF ends a line on Windows, empty heredoc names or delimiters are rejected
1. Post steps run after their pre step even when main was skipped, composites see undeclared inputs, `runs.args` wins without `with.args` being parsed
1. Docker actions skip evaluating defaults of inputs given in `with` and read `entryPoint` and `args` in any case, a lowercase `dockerfile` is found, undeclared inputs get GitHub's warning
1. A user-set `CI` is kept, `GITHUB_REPOSITORY_ID` and the other missing `GITHUB_*` variables are exported
1. `timeout-minutes` can read the step's own `env`, a step-level `ACTIONS_ALLOW_UNSECURE_COMMANDS: false` beats a job-level `true` while the runner's own opt-in still wins, `pwsh` quotes the script path
1. A step `env:` given as one expression such as `${{ fromJSON(matrix.env) }}` is applied, `hashFiles` fails with GitHub's messages on script errors and after 120 seconds, a job image without node still gets an empty hash
1. A step whose command files cannot be reset fails instead of importing stale ones, a timeout between steps fails the job instead of reporting success
1. One named volume can be mounted at several paths, host-mode PTY steps keep their last output when they fail, host scratch directories are removed when job setup fails
1. Cancelling a step right after it starts kills its whole process tree
1. Cache prefix restores pick the newest entry created within the same second, also on S3, cache commits with a wrong size are rejected
1. Artifact chunks are written at their offset, download URLs are escaped, listing a run without artifacts no longer crashes
1. Poll backoff reaches `fetch_interval_max`, proxy passwords are masked in more forms, secrets are also masked in step names and in their quoted form in the runner log, a failed final report is logged
1. On Windows hosts a differently cased unsecure-commands opt-in or proxy variable counts, and an early cancel no longer leaks a job object handle
1. Interactive `register` prompts for a missing token and stops on SIGTERM, `exec --list --detect-event` no longer panics without events, `config set` works on `cache.s3` keys

d882311ec6 refactor: remove dead code and consolidate tests (#1335)
Removes dead code and redundant logic and consolidates tests, so there is less to read and maintain. No behavior change.

1. **act/runner**: inline single-use wrappers, compile regexes once instead of per call, embed the trampoline as a string, drop the unused legacy result of `parseActionCommand`
2. **act/container**: `sanitizeConfig` and `mergeContainerConfigs` stop returning the configs they already mutate in place, drop never-set option fields and the unused `user` parameter of `ExecWithCmdLine`
3. **act/common and cache server**: drop the unused `Trace`/`Tracef` loggers and the short SHA of `FindGitRevision`, `RegisterJob` releases through `RevokeJob`
4. **daemon, poller and reporter**: one shutdown wait for both poll modes, drop an unreachable fetch timeout branch, guard the reporter's last report time with its existing lock instead of an atomic
5. **build**: drop unused Makefile and release workflow variables, collapse the goreleaser ignore list to the same build targets
6. **tests**: fold near-duplicate tests into tables with shared setup

Throughout, hand-rolled logic gives way to `cmp.Or`, `strings.Cut`, `slices` and `min`/`max`.

1a7f09224f perf: speed up job setup, action preparation and the cache server (#1327)

- On Linux, cache the docker proxy discovery instead of starting a probe container per job
- Download a job's actions concurrently and share identical fetches between concurrent jobs

ddee2e054a fix: align Docker actions, job env and host mode with GitHub (#1268)
- Docker actions evaluate `runs.args` and `runs.env` with their own `inputs`, so a same-named `workflow_dispatch` input no longer replaces the step's `with:` value
- Dockerfile action images are tagged per step and job and removed afterwards, so changed Dockerfiles rebuild and concurrent jobs never share an image
- Workflow and job `env` are evaluated before job and service container credentials and service `env` use them
- Docker actions in host jobs get the host workspace and file-command directory mounted, and no longer inherit the runner's own `PATH`
- Cache server address detection accepts a single interface address

990ebaa2ac fix: restore the caller's event and inputs in reusable workflow jobs (#1250)
Fixes https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/issues/38705

Gitea side: https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/39452

Jobs of a called workflow currently see `gitea.event_name == "workflow_call"`, and their `gitea.event.inputs` is replaced by the caller's `with:`. On GitHub they keep the caller's event, and their `inputs` are the run's `workflow_dispatch` inputs overlaid with the caller's `with:`.

For compatibility with older runners, Gitea keeps sending that form and adds a `gitea_workflow_call` key with the original trigger event name and inputs of the run, and the `inputs` Gitea resolved for the job. When the key is present, the runner restores `gitea.event_name` and `gitea.event.inputs` from it, and uses the resolved `inputs` for the job's expressions and the setup log.

Without that key (older Gitea, or jobs outside called workflows), nothing changes.

e0d00e543d feat: update to actionslib v1.2.0, support self: (#1233)
Update to [actionslib v1.2.0](https://gitea.com/gitea/actionslib/releases/tag/v1.2.0) and move logic to it.

1. `self:{owner}/{repo}[/{path}]@{ref}` in step `uses` resolves on the runner's Gitea instance, for https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/issues/38990.
2. `strategy.job-index` and `strategy.job-total` come from Gitea when it sends them.
3. Container, services and `with` are evaluated once instead of on every use.
4. Fixes a flaky clone-lock test.

3962d0d970 fix: composite pre/post conditions read the job status (#1242)
A composite action's child run context starts with empty step results, so a nested action's `post-if: success()` saw the composite's own result and still ran after the job had failed, which let `actions/cache` save caches from failed jobs.

The `job` context now always comes from the job's run context. Only `success()` and `failure()` in a composite's own main steps read the composite's result, matching GitHub Actions.

Updates `gitea.dev/actionslib` to v1.0.0, see https://gitea.com/gitea/actionslib/pulls/17:

1. First-party expression parser passing GitHub's full conformance suite, replacing actionlint
1. Expression results match GitHub, including truthiness, numbers, `fromJSON`, `toJSON` and `hashFiles` cache keys
1. Whole-value `${{ }}` works for `strategy`, `env`, `with`, `services` and `outputs`
1. Matrix validation matches GitHub

1745c7c841 fix: fail the step or job whose expression cannot be interpolated (#1199)
An expression that failed to evaluate was logged and replaced by an empty string, so a `run:` step executed an empty script and reported success. The same swallow covered `shell:`, `working-directory:`, step `env:`, `with:`, `uses:`, the job's `env:`, `container:`, `services:`, `runs-on:` and outputs, and a called workflow's `with:` and `secrets:`. Every interpolation now propagates its error as actions/runner does: step-level values fail the step, job-level values fail the job at setup, `timeout-minutes` logs the error and runs unbounded, and a job or step name keeps its source text.

`defaults.run` and a called workflow's inputs and secrets are resolved once at job setup with the job context rather than per step, and the job's image is resolved once, so host mode and `ImageOS` derive from the image the job started with.

212909db7b fix: keep a step's own with: values out of its inputs context (#1192)
A step's `if:`, its `continue-on-error:` and its `run:` script resolved `inputs.*` from the step's own `INPUT_*` env. A `with:` key colliding with a workflow input flipped conditions, and any `INPUT_`-shaped variable from `env:` or a `GITHUB_ENV` write forged an input that never existed.

GitHub evaluates all three in the enclosing scope: the workflow inputs, or for a composite action's steps that action's inputs. Action-input interpolation is the one place that legitimately sees a step's own `with:`, so it keeps its own evaluator.

Fixes https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/issues/1191, ports https://github.com/nektos/act/pull/2473 and extends it to the pre and post stages.

546eca312e refactor: remove unreachable runner code (#1179)
Remove inherited act APIs, configuration branches, and test seams that neither the daemon nor exec can reach. Constant-fold settings both entry points already enforce and consolidate duplicate runner paths.

Major removals:

- Unwired custom action-cache and local-repository-cache implementations.
- Legacy matrix, platform, input, container-reuse, logging, Git remote, and action-replacement configuration paths.
- Unused Docker socket, container network, tar-copy, and platform PTY wrappers.
- Single-implementation filesystem, environment, runner, and expression abstractions.
- Duplicated step-container, command-logging, credential, reusable-workflow, and execution paths.
- Generated client mock boilerplate, obsolete fixtures, test-only seams, stale wrappers, and commented-out code.

This removes 2844 net Go lines while retaining Gitea RPC, event, matrix, input, cache, artifact, action, reusable workflow, Docker, host, exec, and release behavior.

a8dcd5b67c refactor: move act/model and act/exprparser to actionslib (#1143)
Gitea needs the workflow model and the expression evaluator to parse workflows and to build the task payload this runner consumes, so today it depends on `gitea.com/gitea/runner` just for `act/model` and `act/exprparser`. Both packages now live in `gitea.dev/actionslib` (`pkg/model`, `pkg/exprparser`), the module both sides already share, and this repository consumes them from there.

### Changes

- `act/model` and `act/exprparser` are deleted, all imports point at `gitea.dev/actionslib/pkg/...`.
- New `act/ghcontext` package: the `GithubContext` helpers that need a git checkout on disk (`SetRef`, `SetSha`, `SetRepositoryAndOwner`) are runner only and would drag a git client plus the act context logger into the shared module, so they stay here as functions, with their tests. Only caller is `RunContext.getGithubContext`.
- `act/common.CartesianProduct` moved to the shared model package, `act/model` was its only user.
- `act/model/testdata/container-volumes` moved to `act/runner/testdata/container-volumes`, its only user is `runner_test.go`.
- `internal/pkg/client.UUIDHeader` / `TokenHeader` now alias `pkg/protocol`, so the header names cannot drift apart from Gitea.

### Notes

- No behaviour change intended: the moved files are unchanged apart from the import paths and the split described above.
- `go.mod` depends on the released `gitea.dev/actionslib v0.7.0`, which carries both https://gitea.com/gitea/actionslib/pulls/11 and the `model.UsesHash` port in https://gitea.com/gitea/actionslib/pulls/14 that `main` needs after https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1150.
- Verified with `go build ./...`, `go vet ./...` and `go test ./act/... ./internal/...`; the docker based `act/runner` integration tests (`TestRunEvent`, `TestRunMatrixWithUserDefinedInclusions`) fail identically with and without this change in my environment.

24c13a1fd0 chore: revert 4c2ab943a8 (#1148)
Revert #1136 and use actionslib instead.

revert chore: bump the module path to `/v3`, take the version from the VCS stamp (#1136)

gitea can not consume the runner's api by version while it's version mismatches the module version:

```
go: gitea.com/gitea/runner@v3.0.1: invalid version: module contains a go.mod file,
so module path must match major version ("gitea.com/gitea/runner/v3")
```

Fix that by bumping the module version now. The existing `v3.0.0` and `v3.0.1` tags stay unusable, so a new tag is needed after this lands.

Also drop the version `-X` linker flags, which would otherwise have to repeat the new path in both `Makefile` and `.goreleaser.yaml`, where a stale path makes injection silently no-op. Go has recorded the module version in the build info since 1.24, so `Version()` reads it from there, keeping the variable as an override for builds without a VCS stamp.

That part started as https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1137 but belongs here: the stamp resolves against the tags that are legal for the module path, so without the `/v3` bump it would report `v1.0.9-0.<ts>-<sha>`. Since `release-nightly.yml` triggers on every push to `main`, splitting them would publish a nightly with a `v1` version.

20497aaf4f fix: evaluate each ${{ }} part on its own (#1146)
Every `${{ }}` part was spliced as raw text into a synthesized `format('...', <raw>)` call and re-parsed, so unbalanced parentheses restructured the whole expression:

```yaml
run: echo ${{ 1) && (2 }}      # panicked with "did not evaluate to a string"
if: ${{ 1 }} ${{ 0) && (0 }}   # silently skipped the step
```

One scanner shaped like GitHub's template reader now splits every value, and each part is evaluated on its own, so nothing builds an expression out of text.

An empty input to `Evaluate` asked `success()` whatever the caller requested, so a post step running under `always()` asked the wrong question.

Same fix as https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/38754 on the Gitea side.

333eb17d19 feat: report runner name, environment, workspace and debug to jobs (#1105)
Passes the `runner` context values act already knew but never reported to jobs:

1. `runner.name` / `RUNNER_NAME` — registered runner name, hostname for `exec`
2. `runner.environment` / `RUNNER_ENVIRONMENT` — `self-hosted`
3. `RUNNER_WORKSPACE` — parent of `GITHUB_WORKSPACE`
4. `runner.debug` / `RUNNER_DEBUG` — `1` when `ACTIONS_STEP_DEBUG` is set

`ImageOS` now prefers the release named in the resolved image tag, so `ubuntu-latest` mapped to `runner-images:ubuntu-24.04` reports `ubuntu24` instead of the hardcoded `ubuntu20`. The `runs-on` label stays the fallback.

16357a34b2 fix: accept natively typed boolean workflow inputs (#1087)

The runner coerced booleans by comparing the `any` value against the string `"true"`, which a native bool never matches, so every boolean input evaluated to `false` — including when the callee relied on its default, since the server pre-fills defaults into the event payload and the string fallback is never reached. This accepts a native bool and keeps the string comparison as a fallback, since `workflow_dispatch` inputs are still strings and YAML defaults decode to strings; servers before 1.27 never put a native bool in the payload, so they take the exact same code path as before.

The same coercion is applied to `setupWorkflowInputs` (locally-called reusable workflows, `uses: ./.gitea/workflows/x.yml`), where a `type: boolean` input was previously a native bool when passed as `with: { flag: true }` but a string when interpolated or taken from `default:`. It is now always a bool, matching GitHub, whose `inputs` context "preserves Boolean values as Booleans instead of converting them to strings". **This is potentially breaking**: `inputs.flag == 'true'` now evaluates to `false` and must become `inputs.flag == true`. That pattern is already false on GitHub (a bool compared to a string coerces to `1 == NaN`), but it works on Gitea today, so I am happy to split this hunk into its own PR if you would rather keep this one backport-safe.

6bdcb54828 feat: Enable jobs.<job_id>.timeout-minutes and jobs.<job_id>.continue-on-error (#1032)
Two `jobs.<job_id>` workflow syntax fields were parsed from YAML but silently ignored. This PR implements both:

- **`jobs.<job_id>.timeout-minutes`** — applies a context deadline around the entire job execution (container start, pre-steps, main steps, post-steps). Mirrors the existing step-level `evaluateStepTimeout`. Supports expression interpolation (e.g. `${{ env.MY_TIMEOUT }}`).

- **`jobs.<job_id>.continue-on-error`** — evaluates the expression when a job fails. If all failing matrix combinations had `continue-on-error: true`, the job does not cause the workflow run to fail (`handleFailure` skips it), and the tolerated failure reports `success` to dependent jobs through the `needs` context so jobs gated on the default `if: success()` still run (matching GitHub). The "any firm failure wins" rule is serialised under the existing per-job lock, so parallel matrix combinations are safe.

Both features follow the same patterns already used at the step level (`evaluateStepTimeout` / `isContinueOnError` in `act/runner/step.go`).

## Version compatibility

These changes are backward compatible. With mismatched versions the feature degrades silently to the previous behaviour (field ignored) — no errors on either side.

- `timeout-minutes`: runner-only, no server dependency.
- `continue-on-error`: requires both this runner PR and the matching Gitea server PR to take full effect. With only one side updated, the field continues to be ignored.

270ea41232 fix: matrix-job data races + outputs, leaner offline test suite (#994)
Running the full suite under `-race` (dropping `-short`) exposed pre-existing data races in parallel matrix-job execution, fixed by not sharing mutable state across combinations:

- `containerDaemonSocket()`/`validVolumes()` derive per-job values instead of mutating shared `Config`
- `getWorkflowSecrets` builds a fresh map, `rc.steps()` clones each step, and go-git workdir access is serialized
- every write to a shared `Job`'s result/outputs runs under a per-`Job` lock, each combo interpolating outputs from a pristine snapshot (last wins, as on GitHub)

### Test suite

- capability gates (docker / network / host-tools / Linux) replace the `-short` skips, and the suite runs offline via local fixtures (the artifact flow uses an in-process loopback server, only the docker-action force-pull needs the network)
- drops redundant tests, adds a regression test for https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/issues/981 and a docker-in-docker harness (`make test-dind`)

13dc9386fe Rename act_runner to runner (#850)
## Consumer-facing breaking changes

- **Go module path**: `gitea.com/gitea/act_runner` → `gitea.com/gitea/runner`. Anything importing `act/...` or `internal/...` packages (notably Gitea itself) must update imports.
- **Binary name**: `act_runner` → `gitea-runner`. Wrapper scripts, systemd units, init scripts, and documentation referencing the binary by `act_runner` will break.
- **Docker image**: `gitea/act_runner` → `gitea/runner` (incl. `*-dind-rootless` variants). Users pulling `gitea/act_runner:nightly` etc. will get stale images. Note: the image name is `gitea/runner`, not `gitea/gitea-runner`.
- **Release artifact paths**: S3 directory `act_runner/{{.Version}}` → `gitea-runner/{{.Version}}`, and artifact filenames change with the new project name. Existing download URLs break.
- **Metrics namespace**: changed from `act_runner` to `gitea_runner` (e.g. `act_runner_jobs_total` → `gitea_runner_jobs_total`); existing monitors/dashboards must be updated.
- **ldflags version path**: `gitea.com/gitea/act_runner/internal/pkg/ver.version` → `gitea.com/gitea/runner/internal/pkg/ver.version`. Affects anyone building with custom ldflags.
- **Kubernetes example resource names**: `act-runner` / `act-runner-vol` → `runner` / `runner-vol`. Users who copied the manifests verbatim will see resource churn on apply.
- **s6 service name**: `scripts/s6/act_runner/` → `scripts/s6/gitea-runner/` (image-internal; only matters for downstream image overrides).

Unchanged: YAML config field names, env vars (`GITEA_*`), CLI flags/subcommands, registration file format.

2516573592 chore: clean up nolint directives in act package (#864)
Removes 88 `nolint` directives (386 → 298) via mechanical, zero-regression cleanups:

- **38 `bodyclose`** in `act/artifactcache/handler_test.go`: replaced by `defer resp.Body.Close()` after each HTTP call.
- **21 dead directives** (`gocyclo`, `dogsled`, `contextcheck`): none of these linters are enabled in `.golangci.yml`, so the directives were doing nothing.
- **29 `testifylint`** directives whose underlying issues were addressed by mechanical rewrites:
  - `assert.Nil(t, err)` → `assert.NoError(t, err)`
  - `assert.NotNil(t, err)` → `assert.Error(t, err)`
  - `assert.Equal(t, true/false, x)` → `assert.True/False(t, x)`
  - `assert.Equal(t, 0, len(x))` → `assert.Empty(t, x)`
  - `assert.Equal(t, N, len(x))` → `assert.Len(t, x, N)`
  - `assert.Len(t, x, 0)` → `assert.Empty(t, x)`

Many `testifylint` directives still apply because they flag `require-error` (i.e. testifylint wants `require.NoError` instead of `assert.NoError` for early bail-out). That's a behavior change (fail-fast vs continue) and out of scope for this purely mechanical cleanup — those can be addressed in a follow-up. Same for `expected-actual`, `equal-values`, `error-is-as`, and the remaining `nilnil` / `unparam` / `forbidigo` / `staticcheck` / `goheader` / `dupl` directives.

`golangci-lint run` is clean. Tests pass for all touched packages.

fab2d6ae04 Merge gitea/act into act/
Merges the `gitea.com/gitea/act` fork into this repository as the `act/`
directory and consumes it as a local package. The `replace github.com/nektos/act
=> gitea.com/gitea/act` directive is removed; act's dependencies are merged
into the root `go.mod`.

- Imports rewritten: `github.com/nektos/act/pkg/...` → `gitea.com/gitea/act_runner/act/...`
  (flattened — `pkg/` boundary dropped to match the layout forgejo-runner adopted).
- Dropped act's CLI (`cmd/`, `main.go`) and all upstream project files; kept
  the library tree + `LICENSE`.
- Added `// Copyright <year> The Gitea Authors ...` / `// Copyright <year> nektos`
  headers to 104 `.go` files.
- Pre-existing act lint violations annotated inline with
  `//nolint:<linter> // pre-existing issue from nektos/act`.
  `.golangci.yml` is unchanged vs `main`.
- Makefile test target: `-race -short` (matches forgejo-runner).
- Pre-existing integration test failures fixed: race in parallel executor
  (atomic counters); TestSetupEnv / command_test / expression_test /
  run_context_test updated to match gitea fork runtime; TestJobExecutor and
  TestActionCache gated on `testing.Short()`.

Full `gitea/act` commit history is reachable via the second parent.
