# BPF Tutorial Writing Style
Apply this Skill as the single source of truth for tutorial prose and presentation. It contains style rules only. Use `$write-bpf-production-tutorial` for implementation, evidence, model review, KVM, PR, and CI workflow.
Use this Skill for writing quality only. Use `$write-bpf-production-tutorial` for build, KVM, source synchronization, and PR steps.
## Read the rulebooks
Read all three references before drafting or reviewing:
Read all three references before drafting or reviewing an advanced lesson:
1. [Advanced tutorial guidelines](references/advanced-tutorial-guidelines.md) contains the complete project-provided requirements and must remain intact.
2. [Repository house style](references/repository-house-style.md) explains how to learn from existing tutorials without copying their defects.
3. [Prose and bilingual checklist](references/prose-and-bilingual-checklist.md) carries the relevant eunomia.dev writing discipline into this repository.
1. [Advanced tutorial guidelines](references/advanced-tutorial-guidelines.md) preserves the complete project-provided requirements.
2. [Repository house style](references/repository-house-style.md) defines how new lessons should match `47-cuda-events` and `49-hid` while avoiding their legacy defects.
3. [Prose and bilingual checklist](references/prose-and-bilingual-checklist.md) carries the applicable eunomia.dev prose discipline into this repository.
Also read the English and Chinese versions of `47-cuda-events` and `49-hid` in full. Existing lessons are examples of rhythm, depth, and teaching order, not templates. Verified code, real output, primary sources, and the user's requirements remain authoritative.
Use existing tutorials as living examples, not as a fixed template. Always read the `47-cuda-events` and `49-hid` English/Chinese pairs. The agent may select up to three additional completed tutorial pairs when their subsystem, attachment type, tool shape, or target reader adds a useful pattern. Read every selected file in full and record why it was chosen. Never infer house style from headings alone.
## Write for a reader
Treat verified implementation facts, real runtime evidence, and the user's current requirements as authoritative. Never change code, commands, output, versions, claims, qualifiers, failure behavior, or limitations to make prose smoother. When an older precedent conflicts with verified facts or the current rulebooks, preserve the facts and use only the precedent's useful teaching style.
Start with a problem the reader can picture. Give the reader a small mental model before the full source. Keep one example, packet, event, or failure as the thread through the article.
## Apply the final gate
Use oral English, familiar words, and connected sentences. Write natural Chinese independently from the same facts. Prefer causal explanation over inventories. A paragraph should tell the reader what happens, why it happens, and what that enables.
Treat every unmarked rule in the three references as blocking unless the rule explicitly calls itself diagnostic or advisory. A **Must fix** label highlights a common hard failure; it is not the only kind of blocking rule. Report each failure with the file, heading, smallest useful excerpt, reason, and a targeted correction. Never rewrite a whole section during review when a paragraph-level fix is enough.
Do not write like a paper, specification, PR description, release note, test log, or compliance report. Build and KVM evidence belongs in compilation and execution, where it should support a claim instead of becoming the article's main plot.
Paragraph length ranges are diagnostics, not quotas. A rule marked **Must fix** blocks acceptance. Preserve English and Chinese macro structure, facts, code, commands, output, examples, limitations, and references, but compose each language naturally rather than translating line by line.
## Keep the source readable
The workflow Skill synchronizes every complete-source block. Mark each block with a repository-relative source path:
Include complete core source before the detailed walkthrough, exactly as implemented. Introduce each file with one sentence explaining its role. If the full source is long enough to interrupt the lesson, place each file in a collapsed `<details>` block, then reopen only the important excerpts in the walkthrough.
````markdown
<!-- BEGIN FULL SOURCE: src/<lesson>/<tool>.bpf.c -->
```c
placeholder replaced by the script
```
<!-- END FULL SOURCE -->
````
Do not simplify code, insert ellipses, rewrite comments, or hand-edit synchronized source blocks. Link tests and build boilerplate unless they are part of the mechanism being taught.
Never hand-edit content between these markers. `$write-bpf-production-tutorial` owns the expected-source inventory, synchronization commands, verification order, and acceptance workflow.
## Keep scope honest
Describe what the implementation actually provides. A bounded lab command is a bounded lab command. Do not inflate it into a daemon, controller, production scheduler, security product, or operational platform.
State requirements, one meaningful failure path, cleanup behavior, and limitations. Say each important boundary once, at the point where the reader needs it. Move low-level kernel provenance into a compact requirements or reproducibility note.
## Final reader check
Read the finished lesson in order once. The reader should be able to answer:
- What concrete problem does this lesson solve?
- How does one packet or event move through kernel and user space?
- Which eBPF mechanism makes that possible?
- Which code deserves close attention?
- How do I build, run, and recognize success?
- What does the captured output prove?
- Where does the example stop?
Revise if the reader instead encounters a code wall, repeated disclaimers, a validation transcript, dense spec-sheet paragraphs, literal Chinese translation, or a scenario larger than the tool. This reader check is a judgment pass, not a reason to add reviewers or models.

# Repository house style
New advanced lessons must feel like they belong beside `src/47-cuda-events/` and `src/49-hid/`. Read both English/Chinese README pairs in full before drafting. Use `47-cuda-events` as the depth baseline for an end-to-end tool and `49-hid` as the voice and code-first teaching baseline.
New advanced lessons should feel at home beside `src/47-cuda-events/` and `src/49-hid/`. Read both English/Chinese README pairs in full. Use `47-cuda-events` as a depth reference for an end-to-end tool and `49-hid` as the stronger reference for voice, pacing, and teaching through a concrete device problem.
After those two anchors, inspect the repository index and nearby lesson directories. Select one to three additional finished bilingual tutorials when they offer a closer domain pattern. Networking work may use `20-tc`, `41-xdp-tcpdump`, `42-xdp-loadbalancer`, or `50-tcx`. Process and security work may use `7-execsnoop`, `19-lsm-connect`, `26-sudo`, or `34-syscall`. Tracing work may use `9-runqlat`, `17-biopattern`, or `33-funclatency`. Accelerator work may use `47-cuda-events` and the closest lesson under `src/xpu/`. A reusable primitive may use the closest `src/features/` pair plus one numbered end-to-end lesson.
These lessons are precedents, not perfect templates. Do not copy their unsupported claims, stale version language, inconsistent punctuation, or unnecessary feature catalogs. Verified implementation facts and current project rules win whenever a precedent differs.
These examples are routing guidance, not an allowlist. The agent may choose another completed lesson when it is a better match. It must read each selected English/Chinese pair in full, name the concrete pattern being reused, and explain why that pattern fits. Do not copy a section skeleton simply because another lesson has it.
Read at most one additional completed bilingual lesson when it offers a closer subsystem pattern. For networking, good candidates include `20-tc`, `41-xdp-tcpdump`, `42-xdp-loadbalancer`, and `50-tcx`. Choose by teaching need, not by directory number.
## Match the useful patterns
## Build one continuous story
- Start with a concrete situation the reader can picture. Address the reader directly when it sounds natural, then name the tool and what the reader will learn.
- Give enough subsystem background to make the advanced mechanism understandable. Assume basic eBPF knowledge, so skip generic definitions of maps, CO-RE, or the verifier unless the lesson depends on a non-obvious property.
- Introduce the whole kernel/user-space path before walking through individual functions. Keep returning to the same example so the lesson reads as one story.
- Present the complete kernel-mode eBPF source and complete user-space source exactly as implemented before the detailed walkthrough. Include a shared header when understanding the event or control contract depends on it. Link test fixtures and build files instead of reproducing them unless they are part of the teaching mechanism.
- After the complete source, explain the important BPF structure, helpers, maps, callbacks or hooks, kernel event interaction, user-space load/attach path, output processing, error handling, and cleanup. Explain basic C syntax only when it hides an eBPF-specific constraint.
- Put compilation and execution after the concept and implementation walkthrough. Show exact commands, real output, prerequisites, and what the output means.
- End with a compact summary and one invitation to the repository and tutorial website. Keep primary references in a dedicated final section.
Open with a concrete situation the reader can picture. Name the small tool or example and the useful result, but do not preview every version, counter, failure case, and test in the opening.
Give enough background to explain why the hook or kernel subsystem matters. Then introduce the whole kernel/user-space path before individual functions. Keep returning to the same packet, event, device, or failure so adjacent sections feel causally connected.
Present complete core source before the detailed walkthrough, as required by the advanced tutorial guidelines. A small program can stay inline. When several files or hundreds of source lines would bury the story, wrap each complete file in a collapsed `<details>` block. The code remains present and exact, while the reader can continue to the explanation.
After the source, explain the BPF structure, attach point, state and ownership, relevant helpers or kfuncs, kernel interaction, user-space lifecycle, error handling, and cleanup. Spend words on advanced constraints and surprising behavior. Do not explain ordinary C syntax.
Compilation and execution should show copyable commands, representative real output, and what that output means. Put detailed KVM provenance, commit IDs, and compatibility data in a compact requirements or reproducibility paragraph. Do not narrate the PR's validation history.
End with an honest boundary, a short summary, the required invitation, and primary references.
## Lessons from the 53-egress-pacer rewrite
The first `53-egress-pacer` draft was technically accurate but still failed as a tutorial. It:
- packed the scenario, kernel version, algorithm, counters, conflict behavior, and test result into the opening;
- gave the reader only a few setup paragraphs before several hundred lines of source;
- repeated the same conflict, signal, cleanup, KVM, or safety caveat in the introduction, implementation, run section, and limitations;
- read like an artifact report because validation details received more emphasis than the mechanism;
- called a fixed-duration lab demo a production or operational tool without matching CLI capabilities;
- wrote Chinese by following English sentence order.
The successful rewrite kept all four complete source files, commands, output, versions, failure paths, and limits. It replaced the invented production story with an honest lab scope, followed one skb through ownership and timing, collapsed the long source listings, reduced 12 main sections to 9, and moved KVM evidence into compilation and execution. Repeated `EEXIST` discussion fell from six mentions to two without losing the behavior.
Reuse the method, not those exact counts. Shrink overloaded openings, give the reader one useful mental model, collapse long full-source listings, and make the walkthrough answer the questions raised by the scenario. Keep each technical fact, but place it once where the reader is ready for it.
## Preserve modern correctness
Use the precedents for voice and teaching order, not as permission to copy their weaknesses. New lessons must:
- Use captured output and identify fields that vary across runs.
- Source version, performance, deployment, adoption, and upstream-history claims.
- State the minimum kernel, config, privilege, architecture, and hardware requirements.
- Explain at least one meaningful failure or boundary path and relevant cleanup.
- Distinguish a functional KVM run from a benchmark.
- Avoid unsupported claims such as “production-ready,” “safe,” “negligible,” or “complete visibility.”
- Keep Markdown consistent. Use full-width Chinese punctuation and spaces between CJK text and Latin letters or digits.
- use only captured output and identify fields that vary across runs;
- source version, performance, deployment, adoption, and upstream-history claims;

- avoid unsupported claims such as “production-ready,” “safe,” “negligible,” or “complete visibility”;
- use consistent Markdown, full-width Chinese punctuation, and spaces between CJK text and Latin letters or digits.
## Keep the teaching narrative
Prefer paragraphs over inventories. Use lists for CLI options, requirements, byte layouts, or genuinely parallel items. Do not turn the mechanism into an acceptance report with headings such as “Verified output,” “Test evidence,” or “Statistics” unless the result itself is the topic. Runtime proof should appear naturally in the compilation and execution section, followed by an explanation of what it proves.
Keep exact operational details, but move low-level provenance such as commit and image hashes into the runtime-requirements or reproducibility discussion. Lead with what the tool does, not how its PR was validated.
The English and Chinese versions must share the same title promise, section progression, complete code, commands, output, facts, caveats, summary, and references. Natural Chinese takes priority over sentence-for-sentence symmetry.

# Write a BPF Tutorial

Build a useful tool around a kernel capability. Do not publish a wrapper around an upstream selftest or a feature-only API tour.
Keep the workflow small. The normal path has one author, one reader-focused self-review, and the relevant build and runtime checks. Do not create task ledgers, reviewer databases, mandatory model rounds, or extra process files for an ordinary lesson.
This Skill owns the writing process, not writing style. Invoke `$bpf-tutorial-writing-style` before drafting, rewriting, translating, or reviewing README prose. Never substitute a global Skill for the repository-local style Skill.

## Separate authorship from acceptance
## 1. Understand the lesson
- Let Codex, a human, or another capable model author and revise the lesson. Treat model identity as provenance, not proof of quality.
- Require a read-only review by a different model family after every completed writing or substantial editing pass.
- Give the reviewer the finished English and Chinese files, implementation, tests, real output, primary sources, and the repository rulebooks. Do not give it the author's diagnosis or a list of expected defects.
- Resolve every valid **Must fix** finding. Record a concrete disposition for every **Should fix** and **Consider** finding, then run an external re-review of the final diff.
- Do not call the prose finished while any valid Must-fix remains. If no different model family is available, report `cross-model review unavailable`.
- Use `scripts/run-external-review.sh` for Grok 4.5 or OpenCode GLM 5.2 reviews. Choose one reviewer for a normal pass and at most two when the first review finds factual uncertainty or substantial bilingual problems. Do not run every available model by default. The wrapper is read-only and preserves the complete prompt, trace, and manifest under `~/.local/state/bpf-tutorial-reviews/runs/`.
- Keep `scripts/run-claude-writer.sh` only as an optional, trace-verified `claude-opus-4-6[1m]` authoring channel. It requires a clean checkout, authors inside a bubblewrap-protected isolated worktree, verifies the exact two-file diff, preserves the worktree, prompt, trace, manifest, and patch, then applies that patch to the real checkout.
- Never delete, truncate, rewrite, or clean any writer or reviewer trace directory. Preserve failed and partial runs too.
Read the implementation, tests, Makefile, captured output, and primary upstream references. Read these bilingual precedents in full:
## Establish the tutorial contract
- `src/47-cuda-events/README.md` and `README.zh.md` for end-to-end depth;
- `src/49-hid/README.md` and `README.zh.md` for an approachable teaching voice;
- at most one closer completed lesson when it contributes a subsystem-specific pattern.
Before coding, write one sentence naming:
Write down only two private working sentences: who the reader is, and what they should be able to explain or run at the end. Do not add this planning material to the repository.
1. the production failure or operational need;
2. the user-visible command and result;
3. the kernel capability that makes it possible;
4. the positive and negative paths that prove it works.
Choose an honest scope. A lesson may teach a small operational tool or a focused kernel feature. Do not call a lab demo production-ready, and do not invent a production story that the CLI, output, and tests cannot support.
Reject proposals whose only result is “the program loaded,” “the helper returned success,” or “the upstream selftest passed.”
## 2. Verify the implementation
Read [references/tutorial-acceptance.md](references/tutorial-acceptance.md) before selecting scope or placement. Read [references/repository-precedents.md](references/repository-precedents.md) and the required precedent lessons in full before drafting. Read [references/drafting-process.md](references/drafting-process.md) before creating the task file. Read [references/review-checklist.md](references/review-checklist.md) before a tutorial review and [references/skill-review-checklist.md](references/skill-review-checklist.md) before a repository-local Skill review. Read every reference required by `$bpf-tutorial-writing-style` before drafting and again before final review.
Build on the host. Use `$test-bpf-tutorial-kvm` for load, attach, and runtime behavior when the host kernel cannot run the feature safely. Exercise the normal path, one meaningful failure or boundary path, and cleanup. Record the commands, guest kernel version and commit, and real output needed by the README.
## Implement and verify
Do not turn the README into a validation transcript. Runtime provenance supports the tutorial, but the reader-facing mechanism remains the story.
1. Read the repository contract, nearby lesson code, Makefiles, documentation generators, and CI workflows.
2. Keep one production scenario per PR. Start from the remote default branch for every PR.
3. Follow existing libbpf and CO-RE patterns. Add a deterministic workload, observable result, cleanup, and a relevant failure path.
4. Build on the host without loading BPF there.
5. Use `$test-bpf-tutorial-kvm` for every load, attach, and runtime test. Record guest kernel provenance and real output.
6. Add a compile CI step. Add a runtime feature probe or an explicit skip when ordinary CI lacks the required kernel.
7. Run documentation generators and link/unit tests.
## 3. Draft the English lesson
## Draft from evidence
Follow the project-provided advanced tutorial guidelines through `$bpf-tutorial-writing-style`. Start with one concrete situation, explain the whole kernel/user-space path, include the complete core source exactly as implemented, then walk through the important mechanisms.
First write a precedent brief that confirms the required `47-cuda-events` and `49-hid` bilingual pairs were read in full, then records any additional lesson pairs selected for a useful subsystem or operational pattern. State which teaching patterns to reuse, which legacy weaknesses to avoid, and why the new lesson has a distinct operational job. Do not draft until this brief exists.
When the complete source would dominate the page, keep it in the README but wrap each file in a collapsed `<details>` block. The source must remain searchable, copyable, byte-exact, and placed before the detailed walkthrough.
Create a task file outside the lesson with:
Explain advanced eBPF behavior, not ordinary C syntax. Keep build, run, expected output, requirements, cleanup, limitations, summary, and primary references. State once what the evidence proves and once where the example stops.
- the exact README paths the author may edit;
- the production scenario and intended audience;
- the final code paths and CLI;
- verified build and guest commands;
- real captured output with private paths and identities removed;
- minimum kernel, libbpf, config, privilege, and hardware requirements;
- primary upstream references;
- the precedent brief and exact sibling README paths;
- a source-fidelity ledger covering every fact, command, code file, captured-output block, requirement, failure path, cleanup behavior, limitation, and reference that must survive a rewrite;
- facts or claims the author must not add.
## 4. Write Chinese from the same facts
Draft or revise both README files from that evidence and the repository-local style Skill. Present the complete core BPF and user-space source before the detailed walkthrough as required by the advanced tutorial guidelines. The optional exact-Claude authoring path is:
Write `README.zh.md` from the implementation and the paragraph's purpose, not by translating English sentence by sentence. Keep the same section progression, code, commands, output, claims, limitations, and references. Allow natural Chinese sentence and paragraph boundaries.
## 5. Run one reader review
Read both files from top to bottom as an intermediate eBPF developer. Fix the text when:
- the opening reads like an abstract, specification, PR description, or test report;
- a large code wall arrives before the reader has a useful mental model;
- setup, conflicts, signals, KVM provenance, or limitations repeat;
- a section catalogs facts without explaining cause and effect;
- the scenario promises a tool more capable than the implementation;
- Chinese follows English word order or switches languages unnecessarily;
- the reader reaches the end remembering only a feature name or validation transcript.
For a rewrite, compare the finished pair with the entry version once. Confirm that code, commands, captured output, versions, requirements, failure behavior, cleanup, limitations, and primary references did not disappear or change. Every removed passage should be repetition, stale framing, or material that moved to a better place. Word counts, heading counts, and repeated-term counts can expose bloat, but they are diagnostics rather than targets.
This is the normal review gate. A different model is optional when the user asks for one or when the author is stuck on a concrete passage. Use at most one model for one focused pass, inspect its diff, and keep Codex or the human author as final editor. Model identity is never evidence of quality.
Never delete, truncate, overwrite, or clean real conversation history, agent traces, prompts, partial runs, or failed runs. This preservation rule applies whether or not an external model is used.
## 6. Validate and publish
Synchronize and check every complete-source block in the English and Chinese pair:
```bash
TUTORIAL_ROOT="$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel)"
"$TUTORIAL_ROOT/.agents/skills/write-bpf-production-tutorial/scripts/run-claude-writer.sh" \
--repo "$TUTORIAL_ROOT" \
--task /absolute/path/to/writer-task.md \
--readme "$TUTORIAL_ROOT/src/<lesson>/README.md" \
--readme "$TUTORIAL_ROOT/src/<lesson>/README.zh.md"
python3 .agents/skills/write-bpf-production-tutorial/scripts/sync-source-blocks.py \
--repo "$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel)" \
--readme src/<lesson>/README.md \
--readme src/<lesson>/README.zh.md \
--expected-source src/<lesson>/<tool>.bpf.c \
--expected-source src/<lesson>/<tool>.c \
--check
```
The wrapper must finish with a verified exact-model trace. When another author writes the files, record the author identity in the PR evidence instead.
Repeat `--expected-source` for each complete shared header. Use `--write` only to restore source blocks from their real files; never hand-edit generated payloads.
## Run independent prose review
Run a different model family read-only over the final files, implementation evidence, the two required style precedents, and any additional precedent named in the brief. The wrapper embeds both repository-local Skills and their rulebooks. Pass repository-relative paths with repeated `--file` arguments:
```bash
TUTORIAL_ROOT="$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel)"
"$TUTORIAL_ROOT/.agents/skills/write-bpf-production-tutorial/scripts/run-external-review.sh" \
--reviewer grok \
--scope tutorial \
--repo "$TUTORIAL_ROOT" \
--task /absolute/path/to/review-task.md \
--file src/<lesson>/README.md \
--file src/<lesson>/README.zh.md \
--file src/<lesson>/<tool>.bpf.c \
--file src/<lesson>/<tool>.c \
--file src/<lesson>/tests/<test>.py \
--file src/47-cuda-events/README.md \
--file src/47-cuda-events/README.zh.md \
--file src/49-hid/README.md \
--file src/49-hid/README.zh.md
```
Use `--reviewer glm` for the fixed OpenCode model `zai-coding-plan/glm-5.2`. Apply valid findings with targeted edits, diff-check both languages, rerun documented commands, and invoke an external reviewer again. The gate passes only when the final trace reports no valid Must-fix item.
## Prepare the PR
- Include only one lesson and the minimal generated index/compatibility changes.
- Explain the production problem before the kernel feature in the PR body.
- Report the host build, KVM positive test, negative/cleanup test, guest kernel provenance, documentation tests, author identity, review manifests, and finding dispositions.
- Account for every item in the source-fidelity ledger and state that complete core source appears unchanged in both languages.
- Follow the repository's review, Copilot, and monitored CI gates. Do not merge unless the user asks.
Run `git diff --check`, the lesson build, the relevant host tests, the KVM runtime test, and repository documentation checks. Inspect the final diff for unintended files. Commit and push the repository-local Skills and tutorial changes only after these checks pass. Do not merge unless the user asks.

# Tutorial drafting process
Use this process after the tool and its runtime evidence are complete. `$bpf-tutorial-writing-style` owns all prose, structure, and bilingual rules.
## Prepare immutable inputs
Create a task file outside the lesson. Record the exact README paths the author may edit, intended reader, operational scenario, non-goals, code paths, CLI, verified host and guest commands, captured output, kernel provenance, requirements, primary sources, and forbidden claims.
Add a source-fidelity ledger. Inventory every supplied fact, number, command, code file, output block, volatile field, version, config, privilege, failure path, cleanup behavior, limitation, and reference. A rewrite may move these items, but it may not remove or alter them.
Add a code inventory that identifies the complete core files to reproduce in the tutorial. Include the kernel-mode eBPF source, user-space source, and any shared header needed to understand their contract. Keep tests, generated skeletons, vendored code, and build boilerplate as links unless the teaching mechanism depends on them.
Every inventoried source must be non-empty UTF-8 text with LF line endings and a final LF byte. A fenced Markdown block cannot represent the absence of the final newline without changing the payload, so the synchronizer rejects an empty source or a source without the final LF instead of silently changing it. Do not normalize or edit an implementation file merely to make documentation synchronization pass without explicit authorization.
## Establish the teaching path
Write one sentence for the tutorial's promise and one sentence for its reader. Map each planned section to a distinct reader question. Confirm that the path covers the problem, relevant background, whole-system flow, complete code, focused kernel explanation, brief user-space explanation, deeper concepts, compilation and execution, real output, requirements, failure and cleanup behavior, limitations, summary, and references.
Do not draft until the precedent brief confirms that both `47-cuda-events` and `49-hid` English/Chinese pairs were read in full. Add the nearest subsystem lesson when it contributes a pattern that those two do not cover.
## Draft and compare
Draft English and Chinese from the same evidence ledger. Keep code, commands, and captured output identical. Compose prose independently in each language under `$bpf-tutorial-writing-style`.
After the rewrite, compare each README with its entry version from the end backwards. Mark every removed paragraph as moved, rephrased with all facts intact, or intentionally excluded for a reason already authorized by the task. Restore any unaccounted technical content.
Use the exact marker form documented in `$bpf-tutorial-writing-style/SKILL.md`; never hand-edit the generated content between the markers. From the repository root, synchronize the English and Chinese pair together after drafting. Repeat `--expected-source` once for every core source named in the task inventory:
```bash
python3 .agents/skills/write-bpf-production-tutorial/scripts/sync-source-blocks.py \
--repo "$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel)" \
--readme src/<lesson>/README.md \
--readme src/<lesson>/README.zh.md \
--expected-source src/<lesson>/<shared-header>.h \
--expected-source src/<lesson>/<tool>.bpf.c \
--expected-source src/<lesson>/<tool>.c \
--write
```
Before acceptance, rerun the same command with `--check` in place of `--write`. Then run the repository documentation generators, link checks, tests, and external review workflow.

# Repository tutorial precedents
Read both required English/Chinese README pairs in full before drafting:
- `src/47-cuda-events/README.md` and `src/47-cuda-events/README.zh.md`
- `src/49-hid/README.md` and `src/49-hid/README.zh.md`
Select up to three additional completed lesson pairs with the same operational shape, subsystem, attachment type, or reader task when they add a useful domain pattern. The lists below route common topics, but they are not an allowlist. An agent may select any better-matched finished tutorial after inspecting the repository index. Read every selected English/Chinese pair in full and record every exact path in the precedent brief.
## Required advanced-tool precedents
Use `47-cuda-events` as the end-to-end depth baseline. Reuse its useful scope:
- identify a real workload and the operator-visible events;
- connect the BPF hooks, shared event structure, ring buffer, user-space formatter, CLI, and fixture end to end;
- include build and run commands, representative output, limitations, extension points, and primary references;
- keep the complete source easy to find while explaining only the important excerpts.
Use `49-hid` as the approachable, code-first teaching baseline. Reuse its useful scope:
- open with a concrete problem that gives the advanced feature a reason to exist;
- explain enough subsystem background before implementation;
- present complete source before walking through the important mechanisms;
- explain kernel-mode code in depth and user-space orchestration more briefly;
- put compilation, execution, expected output, experiments, summary, and references after the implementation story.
Do not inherit either lesson's legacy weaknesses. New lessons must avoid generic eBPF history, excessive marketing language, stale or unsupported counts, invented output, unqualified volatile IDs and addresses, unsourced benchmark claims, inconsistent Chinese punctuation, exhaustive feature inventories, and missing requirements or cleanup. The repository-local style Skill defines the current house style when the precedents differ.
## Domain selection
- For networking, also read the closest of `src/20-tc/`, `src/41-xdp-tcpdump/`, `src/42-xdp-loadbalancer/`, or `src/50-tcx/`.
- For security and process lifecycle, also read the closest of `src/7-execsnoop/`, `src/19-lsm-connect/`, `src/26-sudo/`, or `src/34-syscall/`.
- For latency and operations, also read the closest of `src/9-runqlat/`, `src/17-biopattern/`, `src/33-funclatency/`, or `src/48-energy/`.
- For GPU, NPU, or DMA-BUF work, read `src/47-cuda-events/` plus the closest lesson under `src/xpu/`.
- For a reusable kernel primitive, read the closest pair under `src/features/` and one numbered lesson that uses a similar end-to-end flow.
## Required precedent brief
Before prose, record:
1. confirmation that both required README pairs and any additional pair were read in full;
2. two to four structural patterns to reuse;
3. old weaknesses or irrelevant sections to avoid;
4. the new lesson's distinct operational question;
5. the complete core source files that will appear before the walkthrough;
6. why the chosen depth fits this tool rather than copying a fixed template.
Give this brief to both the author and external reviewer. Repository continuity is a requirement, but an older lesson never overrides verified code, runtime evidence, or the current writing rules.

# Independent tutorial review checklist

Review the supplied snapshot without editing files or running commands. The author and reviewer must belong to different model families. The snapshot must include both required precedent pairs, any additional precedent named by the author, the process rulebooks, and the complete `$bpf-tutorial-writing-style` rulebooks. Fail the process as incomplete if any are absent.
Classify every finding as **Must fix**, **Should fix**, or **Consider**. For each finding, name the file and line or heading, quote the smallest useful fragment, explain the problem, and propose a concrete correction. Do not rewrite entire sections.
Give explicit verdicts for:
1. production realism and whether the lesson is a useful small tool rather than a feature tour or upstream selftest wrapper;
2. factual faithfulness to the implementation, KVM evidence, minimum versions, configs, privileges, limitations, and cleanup behavior;
3. architecture, including the thesis, running scenario, section progression, and ending;
4. reproducibility of every build, run, failure, and cleanup command;
5. source-fidelity ledger coverage, including whether any fact, code, command, output, requirement, limitation, failure path, cleanup behavior, qualifier, or reference disappeared during rewriting;
6. exact inclusion of the complete core kernel-mode, user-space, and required shared-header source before the detailed walkthrough;
7. compliance with every repository-local writing-style checklist item, including oral English, repository voice, narrative flow, paragraph density, natural Chinese, punctuation, and avoidance of line-locked translation;
8. overlap with nearby lessons and whether the new lesson has a distinct operational job;
9. English and Chinese agreement on headings, code, commands, examples, output, numbers, claims, caveats, summary, and references.
For the precedent verdict, distinguish legitimate repository continuity from copying. Confirm that the new lesson matches `47-cuda-events` in useful depth and `49-hid` in approachable code-first teaching order while rejecting their legacy weaknesses. A validation-report structure that leads with CI, KVM provenance, or test statistics instead of the reader's problem is a style failure even when every fact is correct.

# Independent repository-local Skill review checklist

Use this checklist only for `--scope skill`. Review the supplied immutable snapshot without editing files or running commands. The author and reviewer must belong to different model families. The snapshot must include both repository-local writing Skill entrypoints, every changed Skill reference or script, every changed CI hook, and any neighboring Skill or workflow needed to verify an interface claim. Fail the process as incomplete when a changed public surface or required dependency is absent.

Classify every finding as **Must fix**, **Should fix**, or **Consider**. For each finding, name the file and line or heading, quote the smallest useful fragment, explain the problem, and propose a concrete correction. Do not turn a Skill review into a tutorial prose review.

Give explicit verdicts for:
1. whether workflow ownership and writing-style ownership are separated cleanly, with correct trigger descriptions and cross-Skill routing;
2. whether the complete project-provided advanced tutorial guidelines are preserved and every optional author or reviewer receives the full applicable rulebook;
3. whether agents must read the required completed tutorial pairs and may select other finished tutorials as useful precedents rather than following a closed allowlist;
4. whether source synchronization enforces containment, complete inventory, exact accepted payloads, bilingual pairing, idempotence, and safe check/write behavior;
5. whether writer and reviewer wrappers preserve prompts, snapshots, traces, manifests, patches, failed runs, partial runs, and real agent behavior without deleting or rewriting prior records;
6. whether author isolation, path/tool restrictions, model proof, read-only review, prompt-injection boundaries, interruption handling, and final gate status match the documented contract;
7. whether unit tests and CI cover the important contracts without requiring BPF runtime on the host;
8. whether every added public surface is authorized or strictly necessary, and whether the two-Skill design is simpler than a combined or duplicated workflow;
9. whether the final Skill can guide a fresh agent from evidence through bilingual drafting, KVM verification, independent review, PR preparation, and CI closure without relying on a global Skill.
The tutorial-specific precedent snapshot requirement and nine lesson verdicts in `review-checklist.md` do not apply to `--scope skill`. A Skill review checks that those tutorial rules are encoded correctly; it does not pretend that the Skill itself is a runnable lesson.

# Tutorial acceptance and placement
## Acceptance gate
A numbered lesson must ship a small tool that a developer could plausibly run while operating or debugging a real system. Require all of the following:
- A concrete actor and problem, such as an SRE diagnosing queueing, a security agent quarantining a live connection, or an accelerator operator finding leaked shared buffers.
- A user-space CLI with useful output, filters, and actionable errors.
- A deterministic workload or fixture that recreates the scenario.
- An assertion connecting the workload to BPF output or behavior.
- A relevant negative path, unsupported-feature probe, or policy miss.
- Automatic cleanup of links, qdiscs, cgroups, maps, sockets, and test processes.
- A documented minimum kernel and required config or hardware.
- Host compile coverage and guest runtime evidence.
An upstream selftest may guide correctness, but do not copy its test harness as the lesson's product story.
## Placement
- Use `src/<number>-<name>/` for an end-to-end tracing, networking, security, scheduling, or operations tool.
- Use `src/features/<name>/` only when the reusable kernel primitive itself is the teaching goal and no honest production tool can be kept small.
- Use `src/xpu/<name>/` when the workload is specifically about GPU, NPU, DMA-BUF, accelerator drivers, or accelerator profiling. Do not use xpu merely because the host has a GPU.
- Keep cross-cutting deployment mechanisms such as program signing under `src/features/` unless the lesson implements a complete operational policy loader.
## Scenario guidance
- `fsession`: build function-latency/SLO diagnosis, not a cookie unit test.
- BPF qdisc: build a two-class latency-sensitive packet scheduler with queue/drop counters, not a bare `Qdisc_ops` registration test.
- Socket destroy: build a live connection quarantine CLI with an allowlisted control case.
- File dynptr plus task work: build deferred executable/header inspection with a direct-read failure demonstration.
- DMA-BUF iterator: build an accelerator/shared-buffer inventory and leak check under `src/xpu/`; avoid claiming per-process ownership without fd correlation.
- XDP multi-buffer: build a fragmented/jumbo-packet L4 parser with a truncated-packet failure case.
- Signed programs: build a signed policy deployment workflow with an untrusted/tampered rejection path.
- BPF crypto: defer unless the example has a defensible operational use and clear key-lifecycle boundaries.
## PR boundary
Keep each scenario in its own branch and PR. Generate README/SUMMARY/compatibility changes on that branch only. Rebase the next branch on current upstream `main`, not on another unmerged tutorial branch.
